Summer of music supported by Isle of Man Arts Council
The popular summer brass band concert series begins tonight (Tuesday) with a performance by Manx Concert Brass.
All the Island’s brass bands take part in the series, which is organised by the Isle of Man Arts Council in association with the Villa Marina.
Also on this year’s programme are the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra, the Manx Swing Band and the Manx Jazz Aces.
Concerts take place in the Villa Marina Arcade on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. Admission is free.
Geoff Corkish MBE MLC, Chairman of the Arts Council, said: ‘The Island has a strong tradition of brass bands and some extremely talented musicians and conductors and these concerts showcase their talents.
‘The series heralds the start of summer and is a part of our cultural calendar that is popular with locals and visitors alike.’
Concerts continue until September 28th.
The Arts Council is also staging a free Manx music and dance season at the Villa Marina Arcade, commencing on Thursday 6th July and continuing on Thursdays at 7.30pm until 24th August. There is no concert on 13th July.
Mr Corkish said: ‘There are many artists keeping the traditions of Manx music and dance alive and creating new interpretations. This series will see groups and individuals perform, on their own and with others.’
